- Abstract
Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is manifested by transient left ventricular dysfunction, which occurs due to negative emotional and/or physical stressors. The well-known triggers also include various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Herein, we report a case of a 70-year-old patient with a history of TTS after direct-current cardioversion (DCC), in whom another elective DCC was complicated by the onset of TTS with life-threatening complications. The patient presented acute cardiorespiratory failure and numerous episodes of torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia (TdP). She was resuscitated several times, required mechanical ventilation and finally after a month of hospitalization she was discharged home in good condition. The presented case discusses the link between direct- current cardioversion and TTS and emphasizes the possibility of reoccurrence of such a complication after another electrical cardioversion.
