- Abstract
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the attitudes towards the elderly and the factors affecting these attitudes. Material and Methods: This study was made in 2018. The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 1,328 people. In sampling, stratified sampling method, which is one of the probable sampling methods, was determined. Ethics committee approval and informed consent were obtained for the study. Data were collected using Personal Information Form and Genya Attitude Scale towards the Elderly. Data were analyzed by number, mean, percentage, t-test, variance analysis, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and simple linear regression analysis. Results: The mean score of the Genya attitude towards the sample was 65.4±.399 and the Cronbach alpha value was .88. The mean score of the Genya Attitude Scale towards the Elderly was 64.3±.486 points for women and 66.9±.675 points for men. The difference was significant. The mean score of married women was 69.0±.747 and the mean score of single women was 64.0±.465 and the difference was significant. The mean score of those who had an elderly person in home their was 64.3±.877, and those were not found were 65.7±.447, and the difference is not significant. The mean score of those who wanted to live with an elderly individual was 63.5±.509 points and 67.7±.621 points for those who did not and the difference was significant. The mean score of those who have visited a nursing home before was 62.6±.820 and 66.4±.450 for those who did not and the difference is significant. Conclusion: Attitudes towards the elderly were found to be positive.
