- Abstract
The article discusses the reasons for stock price crashes and how investors can avoid the impacts of stock price crashes. A stock price crash is defined as a large and abrupt negative stock return relative to the distribution of returns leading up to the crash. Earnings announcements are considered the most common cause of stock price crashes, while others include earnings preannouncements and the outcome of clinical trials for healthcare industry stocks.
