Accelerating production of medical isotopes.
- Authors

- Abstract
An essay is presented that advocates for the use of accelerators to meet demands for nuclear isotopes used in medical imaging. While this isotope -- technetium-99m -- is used in a vast majority of all imaging procedures, there have been repeated shortages of supply. A history of nuclear medicine is presented and plans to retrofit the Missouri University Research Reactor to produce molybdenum-99 are discussed.
