- Abstract
The Tirant beach-dune system (Northern Menorca) is one of the most intensively studied dune systems from Menorca. Different authors have worked on it since the first geomorphological published work at 1988. This article reviews all the contributions that has been done since 1998 from the point of view of coastal geomorphology. Tirant has been a highly anthropogenic system since the 1970s, when sand mining destabilized the inland dune sector. Older works already illustrated the sensitivity of the foredune and their degradation because of anthropogenic pressure (kiosks, removal of Posidonia oceanica wrack, beach mechanical cleaning, sand extraction, etc.). Since 2000 the coastal management concentrate in mitigating erosion, but since 2013 because the economic crisis of 2008 these practices stopped. Lately and due to new erosive episodes management actions were reactivated, but without positive results. Additionally this contribution analyse the evolution of several blowouts by means of two Lidar flights between (2014 and 2020) and Geographic Information Systems. The comparison between the two time-stacks allows to establish the topographical and morphological changes on each blowout, as well as their migration towards the inner part of the dune system until reaching the former sand extraction area.
