- Abstract
This article presents the monograph "Inspector General. Military power, family, and territory in the reign of Carlos III" written by Óscar Recio Morales. The book analyzes the figure of Alejandro O'Reilly, an Irish military man in the service of the Spanish monarchy during the reign of Carlos III. The author examines O'Reilly's life and power networks, as well as the general problems of the time. The book is divided into six thematic sections that address the arrival of the O'Reilly family in Spain, Alejandro's social and military ascent, his period in Cuba and Louisiana, the expedition to Algiers, and his subsequent "exile" in Cádiz. The author highlights the importance of social and political interactions in O'Reilly's career, as well as his exceptional administrative ability. The book is considered a complex and necessary work to understand the reign of Carlos III and Spanish history in the 18th century.
