- Title
Mitochondrial Replacement Therapy: Unmade in the USA.
- Authors
Adashi, Eli Y.; Cohen, I. Glenn
- Abstract
The authors argue that U.S. law in Section 749 of the Consolidated Appropriation Act of 2016 wrongly prevents the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from evaluating research on mitochondrial replacement therapy that uses human embryos. Topics include the use of mitochondrial replacement therapy in Great Britain, the need to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial disease from mothers to their children, and the possibility of cross-border care using mitochondrial replacement therapy.
