- Abstract
L, X, and Z are the three letters used for the classification of ligands in coordination chemistry. With phosphines (L), alkyls (X), and boranes (Z) as illustrative examples, the classification of a ligand in either of these three groups is usually defined by the nature of the ligating atom. In their Communication on page 8876 ff., F. P. Gabbaï et al. demonstrate that these three ligand types can be adopted by the same ligating element, in this case antimony.
