- Abstract
The article presents a study of the synthesis of pyrolyzed iron/nitrogen/carbon (Fe/N/C) cathode catalysts for polymer-eletrolyte-membrane fuel cells (FEMFCs), focusing on iron-ligand coordination strength. It shows that the equilibrium constant K predicts the occurrence of the exchange of metal ions between zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)-8 and Fe complex in wet-impregnation step. It reveals the detrimental effect of cation exchange on the fuel-cell performance of Fe-based catalysts.
