- Abstract
The article discusses a follow-up study concerning weight loss results, comorbidities and mortality in 193 Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) Brazilian patients with high prevalence of super obesity. The study examined the percent body mass index, percent excess weight and percent body mass index loss rates among the patients and at 5 years follow up the rates were 78%, 50% and 74% respectively. Significant reduction in hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia were also noted. The study suggested that RYGBP was efficient in controlling weight loss.
