- Abstract
Introduction Pain is one of the most frequently encountered symptoms in hospitalized patients.[[1]] Inadequate pain relief has not only been associated with increased psychological stress, but also with poor outcomes and increased hospital expenditures.[[2]] To manage pain effectively, it becomes imperative to have adequately assessed the severity of pain.[[3]] To this effect, the American Pain Society has developed a questionnaire as a quality assurance standard to help in the assessment of pain services provided.[[4]] This questionnaire is only available in English, limiting its application to the Indian population. Results A total of 45 patients took part in this study, 15 patients participated in validating the Hindi translation whereas 30 patients (in a total of two rounds) helped in validating the Marathi version.
