- Abstract
A dust generator has been developed for use in animal exposure experiments, which is able to produce constant dust concentrations over long periods. The generator consists of a fluidized bed which is continuously fed with a mixture of dust and fluidizing particles by means of a screw feeder, while excess particles from which dust has been eluted escape via an overflow pipe. The pre-mixing of particles and dust improves the flow properties of the powder and enables it to be fed at a constant rate. Dust/powder mixing ratios below 0.02 gave best results. A wide range of dust concentrations can be produced by varying the mixing ratio, feed rate and the fluidizing air and dilution air flow rates. Performance data are given.
