- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined whether the insulinomimetric effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) are mediated through its principal metabolite, GLP-1 amide. Results showed that no glucose infusion was required in lean subjects to sustain euglycemia during saline or GLP-1m infusions. But infusion was necessary in obese subjects to compensate for a marked inhibition of hepatic glucose production (HGP). It was concluded that GLP-1m inhibits HGP and is a weak insulinotropic agent.
