- Abstract
Stroke results in numerous manifestations that compromise the functionality and limitation of daily life activities, restrict social participation and compromise quality of life, especially during the period of hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The present study aimed to evaluate the quality of life and the frequency of patients with vascular brain disease right after ICU discharge and after one month after hospital discharge. This longitudinal study was carried out in 42 patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke post ICU discharge of the University Hospital of Rio Verde (HMURV), who underwent a conventional physiotherapeutic evaluation, quality of life assessment (QoL) by SF-36 and functionality by Barthel's index in two moments: after discharge from ICU and one month after hospital discharge. As a result and conclusion, mean scores of SF-36 and IB higher after one month of hospital discharge were observed due to the return f the individual to the normal routine and absence of the ICU interventions; presence of a correlation between Qol, functionality and length of stay in the ICU, and the greater the lower the Qol and functionality scores in isolation; lastly, no correlation between the improvement of Qol scores and functionality after hospital discharge that can be explained by the multifactorial characteristic of disease interference.
