- Abstract
The authors suggest possible solutions to avoid the tragedy of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) and other neglected tropical diseases in the developing world. They cite the case of a 35-year-old mother from the poor village of Baniyapur in Bihar, India who died of VL because medical intervention came too late. They advise to start a community awareness program so that people are better aware of VL and other febrile diseases. Other measures to control VL include the use of DDT spray and vaccination.
