- Abstract
The relationship between human and environment can be understood as a dynamic process, which transforms and organizes the geographical space. The touristic activity is an example of this process, since it is the responsible to reorganize the space through social and economic processes. The main goal of this work was to understand the touristic dynamics through changes in land cover and associate them to the Taxes on Consumption of Goods and Services (ICMS) collection for the city of Bonito-MS, Brazil. Three dates with satellite image acquisition of Landsat 5 TM sensor were analyzed covering a period of 17 years. Images were chosen according to their acquisition date, which we searched for images within the austral winter season due to the low cloud cover in this period of the year over the study area. A hybrid classification of land use was performed for three images using a Geographical Information System (GIS). The area ( in percentage) for each class was related to the socio-economic data through statistic techniques of correlation as well as Boolean operations which were used to compute change detections among the three classifications. It was observed that during this period urban areas grew almost 34% and this growth was highly correlated (0,8673) to the growth of representativeness of consumption on the ICMS collection, which grew more than 1000% for the same period. It was also noticed an increased in the area classified as vegetation which could be related to the increase of environmental pressure as well as the increase of earns by the third sector. It was also noticed an increasing of agricultural areas, mostly, due to recovery of the soybean crops in the 1990s.Thus, understanding the dynamic of social processes for the re-organization of space showed to be an important tool to assist policy makers and to have an adequate management.
