- Title
Systematic phenotyping of mouse mutants.
- Authors
Wurst, Wolfgang; De Angelis, Martin Hrabe
- Abstract
The article discusses a study by T. Tang and colleagues on the generation of mouse knockout lines, each disrupted in the expression of a different secreted or transmembrane protein. The researchers used a phenotypic screen to establish the effects of each gene deletion on a wide range of physiological traits. The authors point out that the study revealed a trend that suggests an association between tissue-specific gene expression and organ-specific phenotypes. However, they believe that the characterization of the mouse lines is just a first step to comprehensive analysis of thousands of mammalian genes.
