- Abstract
The article explains the process of juvenile dependency proceedings and the termination of parental rights governed by the California Welfare and Institution Code. The author describes the three stages of dependency proceedings: detention, jurisdiction and disposition. Termination of parental rights, which leads to adoption, is the last resort after diligent efforts by the state to reunify the family have failed.
