- Abstract
This study aims to determine the audience's acceptance of the representation of Papuan cultural identity in imperfect the series season 2. the method of audience reception analysis with Stuart Hall's Encoding and Decoding theory was used in this study to see audiences who actively perceive messages and produce meaning. This research was conducted in Sorong City and Regency, Southwest Papua with in-depth interviews as a data collection method. the results of this study found that out of ten informants, four informants were in a hegemonic dominant position, which interpreted the imperfect the series season 2 film as entertainment and able to represent Papuan culture. Three informants are in a negotiating position, interpreting that the imperfect the series season 2 film is one side in accordance with the cultural identity of Papua, but on the other hand, there are several things that must also be improved so as not to cause bias for people outside Papua. While the other three informants were in a position to refuse, considering that imperfect the series season 2 did not represent a Papuan cultural identity, making a construction of Papuan culture that led to a bad perception of Papua.
