- Abstract
Introduction: the consumption of alcoholic beverages is increasingly frequent in adolescents. This leads to important complications in the individual, family and social order. Objective: to characterize alcohol consumption in students from Iran Durañona Figueredo preuniversity institute during September to December 2020. Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, study in students from Iran Durañona Figueredo pre-university institute, Majibacoa municipality, La Tunas province from September to December 2020. The target group comprised 45 students; working with all of them. The following variables were analyzed: age, sex, consumption of alcoholic beverages, state of inebriation, consumption of other drugs and cohabitation with family consumers. Results: the 57,8 % were between 14 and 15 years old. Female sex predominated (64,4 %); the 71,1 % reported consuming alcoholic beverages. Those who consumed alcoholic beverages got to the state of inebriation (75 %). A higher incidence was observed in students from 14 to 15 years (43,8 %). Other drugs such as coffee and cigarettes are consumed by 81,3 % and 75,% respectively. Parents and siblings who consumed alcohol represented the highest percentage of those living with student consumers (59,4 % and 46,9 % in that order). Conclusions: there is a higher incidence of alcohol consumption in males, especially in students from 15 to 16 years old. Most of them got to a state of inebriation; it is common for these adolescents to consume other drugs such as cigarettes and coffee. Living with parents or siblings who consume alcohol is a risk factor.
