- Abstract
So far as we know, intrapituitary injections1-7 or implants8-15 have been performed only on adult rats1-5,8-11 or on bigger animals such as rabbits6,7,12-14 or dogs15. For these experiments stereotaxic methods are usually adopted. In this communication a technique is described which renders it possible to perform injections or perfusions into the pituitary gland of both immature and adult rats and mice. To this purpose a needle has been devised which allows entrance to the hypophyseal tissue by the transauricular approach. Such a route had been already used to perform, with suitable instruments, both pituitary ablation16,17 and transplantation18.
