- Abstract
Introduction: the exercise of nursing care predicts actions that allow the involvement of patients and caregivers in the therapeutic plan, rescuing them from a universe of fragile understandings regarding the interventions to which they are being subjected, such as the minimum care necessary to maintain the devices that they use. In this context, it is highlighted that the use of printed educational technologies is an effective method to facilitate and retain learning. Objective: to develop an educational booklet for hospitalized adult patients using peripherally inserted central catheters and their caregivers. Method: methodological study adapting propositions to build health care guidance manuals. That said, the following steps were innovative: (I) preparation of the research project, (II) bibliographic survey and (III) construction of the booklet. Results: the creation of the booklet was completed based on updated information resulting from the bibliographic survey. However, the language adapts to the target audience, distancing itself from technical terms specific to everyday hospital life, making the reading attractive, clear and explanatory. Furthermore, to enrich the material, digitized illustrations were included and created with the help of a graphic design professional, based on the researchers' guidance. Conclusion: the final version of the technology was titled "Do you know the PICC?" and has a total of nine pages, the content of which disagrees on: device characteristics, restrictions, advantages, complications and maintenance, in addition to having space for observations. Future studies to evaluate its validity evidence are necessary.
