- Abstract
The article reports on a study that evaluates a new born infant with cracked and peeling skin on his face, chest, hands and feet. The diagnosis found that the infant had the congenital form of ichthyosis, a disorder that is referred to as fish scale disease. It states that hospital neonatologists have closely monitored the patient's volume status and electrolytes, placed him in a humidified incubator and ensured that he is treated with emollient creams. It reveals that most collodian babies survive to adulthood, while few babies are affected with harlequin ichthyosis survive the neonatal period.
