- Abstract
Introduction: Static Stretching reduces strength production in athletes, this reduction in strength is detrimental to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) fighters since performance in this fight depends on the production of maximum isometric strength of the wrist. Thus, the objective of the present study is to analyze if the static stretching reduces the maximum isometric strength of the wrist in BJJ fighters. Methods: The sample consisted of 23 male fighters. The subjects performed two interventions, the first consisted of characterization of the sample and familiarization of the protocol and test, and the second in which 12 athletes were allocated in the control group and 11 fighters in the experimental group, in a Random way, and performed 16 minutes of static stretching. Normality was verified with the Shapiro-Wilk test. After being accepted, we used the unpaired t test to compare the means of the control group with the experimental group and adopted the statistical significance for p≤0.05. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between groups. Conclusion: We conclude that the protocol did not generate effects that reduced the maximum isometric strength of the wrist in BJJ fighters, thus not having negative implications of static stretching before training or competitions.
