- Abstract
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been used as a technique for endoscopic resection of superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms since 1995. Since the adenoma-carcinoma sequence is usually involved in carcinogenesis in the duodenum, duodenal endoscopic resection is performed mainly for treatment of adenomas rather than carcinomas, similar to the colon. Ozeki et al. investigated the learning curve of a single endoscopist for duodenal ESD based on 98 consecutive cases in a retrospective single-center study.9 The endoscopist had prior extensive experience with gastric, esophageal, and colorectal ESD.
