- Title
Chaperoning against neuronal vulnerability (Commentary on Zijlstra et al.).
- Authors
Cheetham, Michael E.
- Abstract
The author reflects upon the study conducted by researcher M. P. Zijlstra and colleagues on the relationship between heat shock proteins (HSP) and age of patients with spinocerebellar ataxia. The author informs that the study tested the expression of chaperones in fibroblasts from ataxia patients and discusses the advantages of using fibroblasts to study gene expression in neurodegeneration. The author opines that the study is useful in analyzing neuronal vulnerability to proteostasis imbalance.
