Dohmen, Linda
- Abstract
The anthology "Small Worlds. Rural Societies in the Carolingian Empire" presents the results of the spring conference of the Konstanz Working Group for Medieval History. The contributions deal with the "small worlds" of the Carolingian Frankish Empire and the social practices of local actors. Various types of sources are examined, including settlement archaeology, collections of miracles, collections of formulas, and charters. The role of officials, such as priests and secular functionaries, is also illuminated. The volume offers insights into various regions, including the Wormsgau, Tuscany, Eastern Brittany, and the northern Iberian Peninsula. The role of women in these "small worlds" is also discussed.
