- Abstract
The article discusses the launch of a multimedia healthy swimming campaign by the public health agencies of Utah prior to the 2008 summer swimming season, resulting from a statewide outbreak of gastrointestinal illness caused by Cryptosporidium, a parasite transmitted through the fecal-oral route in 2007. A survey of Utah residents conducted in July-September 2008 revealed that 96.1 percent of respondents indicated that one should not swim when one has diarrhea.
