- Abstract
The article discusses the status of state laws related to the provision of special services to preschool handicapped children in the U.S. There are three categories for these state laws including legal authorization for the inclusion of preschool handicapped children in educational programs, administrative patterns which operate to provide for program delivery and provisions that are made within the law for associated services. The required age for admission to public special education programs has been lowered in other states. In order to provide for preschool children with handicaps, some states operate directly from the state level within state institutions. Most states have crippled children's units directed towards the provision of health services.
