- Title
Animal breeding in India - a time for reflection, and action.
- Authors
Nimbkar, C.; Kandasamy, N.
- Abstract
The authors reflect on animal breeding in India. They mention that the 'Sunandini' and Frieswal composites were among the few cases of sustained genetic improvement. Yet, they say that there is neither genetic development among the indigenous cattle breeds nor crossbred cows with diverse levels of exotic inheritance. They also state that India has a number of national species-specific and veterinary research centers, but that most research projects do not contain objectives and applicability.
