- Abstract
The article titled "Ears of the lynx: A neuroradiological totemism" discusses a case study of a 16-year-old girl with progressive spastic quadriparesis and mild intellectual disability. The differential diagnoses for her condition include various brain and spinal cord abnormalities, metabolic diseases, and hereditary spastic paraplegia. The article focuses on a specific MRI finding called the "EARS OF THE LYNX" sign, which is characterized by abnormal conical hyperintensities in the frontal horns of the lateral ventricles, resembling the tufts of hair over the ears of a lynx. This sign is usually seen in a subtype of hereditary spastic paraplegia and can be useful for targeted genetic testing. The patient in this case was found to have a compound heterozygous pathogenic variant of the SPG11 gene. Treatment options included physiotherapy, medication, and genetic counseling.
