- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of forest restoration on the genetic diversity of plants. Restoration efforts, whether active or passive, can have positive effects on biodiversity conservation and environmental stability. The choice of restoration method and the source of propagules used can influence long-term genetic diversity. Studies have shown mixed results regarding the genetic diversity of restored populations compared to natural areas, with some finding similar values and others showing higher diversity in restored populations. Factors such as pollination and seed dispersal mechanisms, as well as the surrounding landscape, can also affect genetic diversity. Overall, forest restoration can be an effective tool for maintaining genetic diversity and conserving biodiversity.
