- Abstract
This article discusses the levels of heavy metals and organochlorine pesticide residues in ayurvedic formulations of herbal remedies in India. The authors analyzed three common formulas using an inductively coupled plasma emission spectrophotometer. They found levels of lead, chromium, nickel, and cadmium below World Health Organization permissible permits. They also detected isomers of DDT metabolites. They recommend that pharmaceutical industries estimate the heavy metals and pesticide residues in every batch of ayurvedic formulations.
