- Abstract
Introducción. El uso indebido y excesivo de los antimicrobianos es el principal factor que determina la aparición de patógenos farmacorresistentes. En el 2019 se encontró que el 67 % de las tiendas en municipios de Guatemala tenían disponibles antibióticos. En agosto del 2019 en el país se aprobó la normativa 181-2019 que regula la venta de antimicrobianos bajo prescripción médica. Objetivo: Establecer la disponibilidad de antibióticos en tiendas en dos municipios de Guatemala después de entrar en vigencia la normativa 181-2019. Materiales y métodos: Se hizo un estudio transversal descriptivo en el 2021. Se recolectaron datos en tiendas de dos municipios de Guatemala. La información se obtuvo mediante un cuestionario sobre la disponibilidad de antibióticos y si era necesario o no receta médica para su compra. Se comparó la disponibilidad antes y después de la entrada en vigencia de la normativa y se contrastó el precio de los antibióticos con los de referencia internacional (International Reference Prize). Resultados. En el 62 % (185/297) de las tiendas había disponibilidad de antibióticos. Los más comunes fueron la amoxicilina (70 %; 129/185) y la tetraciclina (49 %; 90/185). En el 97 % (180/185) de las tiendas no se solicitaba receta médica para su venta. El precio individual de la amoxicilina fue cuatro veces más alto que el IRP. Conclusión. A dos años de la adopción de la normativa 181-2019, no hubo una diferencia significativa en la disponibilidad de antibióticos en las tiendas de dos municipios de Guatemala y un alto porcentaje de estas continuaba vendiendo antibióticos sin necesidad de prescripción médica.
