- Abstract
Introducción. La notificación de cáncer de pulmón tiende a incrementarse en los departamentos del Eje Cafetero, así como el riesgo de muerte debidas a este tipo de tumores. Objetivo. Determinar la frecuencia de consumo de cigarrillos en la población risaraldense para orientar procesos de adopción de decisiones en torno al desarrollo de estrategias que lleven a la reducción del riesgo asociado al consumo de tabaco. Materiales y métodos. Se hizo un estudio transversal en una muestra de 2000 personas y sus familias seleccionada con un nivel de confianza de 95 % y un error de muestreo de 5 % para la definición de la prevalencia de consumo de cigarrillo. Previo consentimiento informado, se recogió la información del nivel de dependencia a la nicotina, el deseo de dejar de fumar y el nivel de ansiedad que generaba el consumo. Todos los instrumentos usados se han validado y se usan internacionalmente en la definición del consumo de cigarrillo. Con la información se digitó una base de datos y se analizó en programa Stata, versión 14.0. Resultados. El 20,2 % de los participantes eran exfumadores, mientras que el 7,9 % eran fumadores activos. En los 6.587 miembros de familias evaluados y reportados por el entrevistador se encontró una prevalencia de consumo de cigarrillo de 10,3 %. Conclusión. El consumo de cigarrillo en las poblaciones del departamento de Risaralda representa una exposición vigente. Deben adoptarse intervenciones para disminuir el riesgo de consumo y la cesación del consumo de tabaco.
