- Abstract
The article discusses a study which compares the combination treatments of olmesartan/azelnidipine and olmesartan/diuretics on serum osteoprotegerin (OPG) in patients with essential hypertension. The study found that azelnidipine, but not indapamide, combined with a prodrug olmesartan, improved arterial stiffness and were associated with decrease in OPG concentration. The study suggests that the beneficial effects of the combination treatments are mediated by alteration in bone-remodeling.
