- Abstract
Overweight and obesity have become a social problem in today's modern societies and, alongside physical inactivity, are gradually making society sick and weak. Children and young people are becoming accustomed to sedentary routines and little physical exercise. Moreover, these lifestyles can eventually lead to health-related problems, both individual and society-related. The aim of the research was to analyse and compare the level of physical activity and motivation that students have towards physical activity and to compare these results according to the sex of the adolescents. The study was carried out with a total of 209 secondary school students in Granada (Spain), who were asked to fill in the PAQ-C physical activity questionnaire and the physical activity behaviour regulation questionnaire (BREQ-3). The main results found that the male population is more active than the female population both inside and outside the school environment. The physical fitness level of the students is medium and low. Males have better results in terms of physical fitness and motivation to be physically active.
