- Title
Does Shave Biopsy Accurately Predict the Final Breslow Depth of Primary Cutaneous Melanoma?
- Authors
POLK JR., HIRAM C.
- Abstract
The article looks at the capacity of shave biopsy to predict the Breslow depth of primary cutaneous melanoma with accuracy. It states that such method may underestimate the depth and width of a skin lesion. The author says that practicing surgeons would prefer to perform an excisional biopsy unless the diameter of the lesion is very large. He urges family practitioners and dermatologists to apply a technique with which they are comfortable for biopsy, excluding any type of cautery.
