- Abstract
The article presents the text of a speech by United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon delivered at the Geneva Lecture in Switzerland in 2009, in which he focused on nuclear disarmament and the Millennium Development Goals. He mentioned the challenges to nuclear disarmament which include transparency, the issue of irreversibility and commitment to eliminate nuclear weapons. He proposed to reduce military spending and allocate the funds that could be saved to efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
