- Abstract
The article examines the use of free speech jurisprudence in the U.S. to address the dual threats of cancel culture and hate speech by reinforcing the individual liberty guaranteed through free speech. Topics discussed include calls for regulation of hate speech as a result of the polarization and division infecting the society, the self-actualization theory of free speech, and ways suggested by social science to assess fear speech.
