- Abstract
The article discusses the intellectual competence of youth using recreational devices such as puzzles in the U.S. Such factors as test intelligence, prior puzzle experience, manual dexterity, space perception and related attributes have effect on the completion time of both areal and volumetric puzzles. In the two-dimensional puzzle to investigate the effects of (1) sex, (2) intelligence or problem-solving ability as evidence by an IQ score, and (3) prior experience in puzzle solving, as to theirs upon the time of solving. The form/color alteration in puzzle-solving follows a pattern which is like other Piagetian tasks; shortest times of completion were achieved by those who visualized the plan, alternated with purpose and no dawdling, and produced a completed puzzle in about 6 minutes in two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
