- Abstract
The article presents a study that determines the extent to which elementary science teachers understand the specific objectives pertaining to science. A group of in-service teachers taking a course in science methods at the University of Utah in 1960 were the subjects in the study. Open-end questions were used to determine the correlation of successful or unsuccessful lessons with an understanding of the objectives of elementary science teaching. There is a need for further research to find out whether more emphasis should be placed on objectives in teacher training course and how best to teach these aims to the children.
