- Abstract
The rapid and reliable access to information in industries is momentous nowadays to continuously ensure an under-control production. However, the extensive use o f commercial software platforms used to get and process manufacturing data in industrial companies has entailed the increase of the quantity of the produced resources that contain the needed information. Retrieving such resources by the business experts is becoming ever more difficult, in particular because such resources always lack of semantics. We propose an original bottom-up mapping approach to address this lack of semantics and to enhance the retrieval of information resources in industrial contexts. Our proposal relies on exploring the company repositories and providing semantic descriptions to the information resources found in order to facilitate their retrieval by the business experts. This approach is supported by two semantic structures which aim is twofold: streamlining the vocabulary related to a process control activity in a company, and gathering the semantics related to the core business. The approach was implemented and experimented within the semiconductor company STMicroelectronics and showed significant results. The proposal and its findings are emphasized in this paper.
