- Abstract
A critique is presented to a section of the poem "Paradise Lost" by John Milton that refers to the sands of the African cities of Cyrene and Barca, which the author compares to a similar reference in an ancient Latin poem by Catullus. Ancient Greek historian Herodotus and Greek poet Pindar are mentioned, as well as Milton's familiarity with North Africa.
