- Abstract
The current of the electrodes in ore-roasting furnaces contains a harmonic component with a frequency of 100 Hz (the second harmonic) due to the valve effect exerted by the ac arc and the contact between the carbon electrode and the melt. The character of the change in this component depends on the strength of the arc and the depth to which the electrodes are submerged in the melt.
