- Abstract
Objective: In this study, we aim to evaluate and compare the anterior segment parameters of eyes with clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation syndrome and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma with their fellow healthy eyes. Material and Method: Sixty eyes of 30 patients with clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation syndrome and sixty eyes of 30 patients with clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation glaucoma were included in this study. In both groups, anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber volume, anterior chamber angle, central corneal thickness, corneal volume (in 3.0 mm), anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism (in 3.0 mm) are evaluated and compared using combined Scheimpflug-Placido imaging device. A p value of less than 0,05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The mean age of the participants was 69,82±8,60 years in this study. In clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation glaucoma group; corneal volume (p=0,001), anterior chamber depth (p=0,011) and anterior chamber angle (p<0,001) values were significantly higher in healthy eyes when compared to the fellow eye with pseudoexfoliation. In clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation syndrome group; there was no statistically significant difference in these parameters between the healthy eye and the eye with pseudoexfoliative material. In both groups, there was also no statistically significant difference in anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism between eyes with pseudoexfoliation and fellow healthy eyes. Conclusion: In clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation glaucoma; corneal volume, anterior chamber depth and anterior chamber angle were significantly higher in healthy eyes. Although we do not know which patients with clinically unilateral pseudoexfoliation syndrome will develop pseudoexfoliation glaucoma; the asymetry in anterior segment parameters could help us to estimate the severity of this disease.
