- Abstract
The article titled "Ambassador's Career: Viceroyalties and Councils in the Diplomatic Cursus Honorum of the Hispanic Monarchy (17th Century)" analyzes the diplomacy of the Hispanic Monarchy during the Modern Age and its relationship with government tasks, especially those of viceroys. The study offers a panoramic view of the relations between domestic government and foreign policy of the Monarchy, focusing on the viceroys of the 17th century and the diplomatic positions they held. It is divided into different sections that address the viceroys in the Councils of Aragon, Flanders, the Indies, and Italy, as well as a prosopography of the viceroy-ambassadors who were also State advisors. The article concludes that merits and accumulated experience in a political career were fundamental to reach the highest levels of power in the Hispanic Monarchy of the 17th century.
