- Title
El director de arte: revisión de la definición en la literatura científica y propuestas de los expertos.
- Authors
Miguélez-Juan, Blanca
- Abstract
For various reasons, the authors do not agree when it comes to establishing a consensus and conclusive definition that accurately specifies who the art director is. Sometimes it is even confused with the graphic designer. It is a certainly complex figure affected, without a doubt, by the changes that occur in the advertising industry itself and the society. About to reach its first centenary, a review of the definitions found in the scientific literature and the approaches to the definition of the art director made by twenty professionals linked to the profession and the Academy are presented. In addition, eight facets that can be attributed to the art director are showcased and the characteristics that differentiate it from the graphic designer are revealed. All this will allow to draw various conclusions about the difficulty of defining this figure. In short, what remains unchanged over time is the coincidence in pointing out the art director as the creative responsible for the visual aspect of the works carried out by an advertising agency.
