- Abstract
Deepwater sedimentary constructions in Ruvuma Basin are carried out by the combined action of gravitational processes and processes related to bottom currents. Local channels display obviously migrating characteristic, migrating direction correspond to the opposite direction of bottom current. This analysis reveals that coarse sediments in different order sequences show systematic distribution. High resolution 3D seismic data and well logging data were used for the identification of 5 deep-water sedimentary architecture elements, including the limited channel complexes, lobes, crevasse splays, levee-overbanks and slumps in third-order sequences, corresponding to the Middle Miocene. These sedimentary architecture elements own different lithologic compositions and scales. The evolution model of deep-water sedimentary complex was established by means of advanced geophysical imaging techniques and analysis methods. Results show that the interactions between deep-water bottom currents and gravity flows are reflected in the levees location and mode, migration direction of channels, position and distribution of lobes. The bottom currents have different effects on gravity flow deposits in different sea-level change cycles and different depositional position. The favorable reservoir is mainly distributed in the channels and the flank which are contrary to the direction of bottom currents movement.
