- Abstract
The article discusses various ways to control contamination of anesthetic gas known as nitrous oxide in dental offices. During the application of inhalation analgesia and anesthesia in operative dentistry, anesthetic agents inevitably leak into the room air and may be inhaled by all personnel. A 1977 survey found that anesthesiologists suffered high incidences of irritability, headache, fatigue, nausea and many others. To avoid such incidences, good training and education of personnel of the proper technique is needed. Dentists should also check whether the anesthetic equipment meets the conditions such as adaptable to the anesthesia in use or allows safe disposal of gases.
